Less Screen Time More Play Time
Knowing that diet is only part of the problem, The School Canteen has also established ‘Get Active’, a physical activity program designed to keep kids between the ages of 5 and 15 moving.
Get Active is part of The School Canteen’s vision to offer a holistic, whole-person approach to family health and wellbeing . It aims to not only equip parents with the information and means to feed their families well, but also gives them a variety of ways to get their children out of the house and moving around!
Not only does increased physical activity improve physical health, it also helps children grow interpersonal skills, and has well-documented mental health benefits as well. As children are moved indoors, social and physical skills suffer, shrinking physical activity networks and reducing the opportunity children have to participate in the team sports and activities of their choice.
Get Active is also looking out for the parents as well! We plan to provide discounted rates for local parents at our affiliated school to ensure that more children can access these programs, and establish great fitness habits for the future.
Get Active is currently in the process of aligning themselves with like-minded sports programs who will complement their interests in improving and maintaining the fitness levels of school-aged children. We’re keen to create a networked of trained, caring sports professionals and coaches to not only guide your children in their fit future, but ensure that your children are safe and protected while doing so. As trained professionals in our field, we know how important experience and supervised instruction are, so let us do the homework and engage people as informed and passionate as we are.
